After Thursday’s last-minute glitch in coalition negotiations, Yesh Atid and Habayit Hayehudi agreed on Friday morning to sign an agreement to enter Israel’s new government.
PM Benjamin Netanyahu telephoned Habayit Hayehudi leader Naftali Bennett on Thursday night, and appealed to him to sign the agreement according to conditions set earlier by the party. Bennett agreed.
Noga Katz, a spokeswoman for Netanyahu’s Likud-Yisrael Beitenu faction, says leaders of the Yesh Atid and Habayit Hayehudi have given up last-minute demands to be named deputy prime ministers. Those last-minute demands delayed the deal from being formalized.
An official with the Yesh Atid party, Netanyahu’s leading partner, said that the matter was resolved, and new coalition partners would sign a coalition agreement Friday.
