Four new Sufah (Storm) F16i fighter planes, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, arrived in Israel on Thursday. The advanced fighter craft are part of a comprehensive package signed in 2000, an order than involves 102 such fighter planes.
Officials continue to inspect planes, which have been grounded, due to reports they contain cancerous materials in the cockpit. Inspections will also be conducted on the newly-arrived planes.
Prior to being included in the air force fleet, additional system will be installed, as is the custom, classified modifications that are performed in Israel.
Air Force commander Major-General Shkedy announced earlier this week that if there is an operational need for the aircraft they are ready and will be put into service immediately.
