The NYPD and Flatbush Shomrim are looking for a thief or thieves who are stealing the tires and rims right off of vehicles. This is happening all across Southern Brooklyn – including Midwood / Flatbush. Vehicles being targeted are mostly newer model Honda Accords.
According to police, the suspects may arrive in a scout car will pick out a target, then a van is called in with the tools to do the job.
Thieves are using technology to their advantage as well. Super lightweight powerful jacks and battery-powered high torque guns can have a car off the ground with its wheels off in a few minutes.
But there are somethings you can do to keep from discovering your ride on blocks.
Install a special kind of locking lung nut. They’re pretty inexpensive, and while not full proof, are a great deterrent. You can also try parking closer to your home, business or store.
Police sources said the NYPD is stepping up patrols in targeted neighborhoods.
If you hear or see anything suspicious, immediately call 911 and then Flatbush Shomrim 24 hour emergency hotline at 718-338-9797.
