Tragedy struck the Hollywood, FL Jewish community on Tuesday morning, after a member of the community was R”L struck and killed by a vehicle.
Yehoshua Friedwitzer Z”L, approximately 80, was walking to Shul when he was struck by the vehicle on Thomas Street and North 46 Avenue. He was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital, but was R”L Niftar after arriving there.
Investigators said the driver did not see him because another car was changing lanes in front of them.
The driver remained on the scene while police conducted their investigation.
Chesed Shel Emmes along with Rabbi Yosef Korf – the Chabad Shaliach in Hollywood – worked with the local authorities to ensure proper Kavod Hames. The Niftar is being flown to New York for a Levaya and Kevura.
Boruch Dayan HaEmmes…
The victim is a dear neighbor, a kind, gentle soul, and because he was struck walking home from his house of worship we would like further details on how this happened

Nebech, so live such a long life and pass like that.
It looks like he was crossing midblock ( there is a double yellow line ).
Yes, it is a tragedy. However, the lesson we should take from this is that if you’re 80 or over, your reflexes, eyesight and hearing are not what they used to be. For your own safety, please cross at designated crosswalks, and not where there is moving traffic.
