Should Palestinians Pay For Medical Costs of Terrorists Imprisoned in Israel?

The Knesset Welfare Committee will discuss a draft law today according to which the PA (Palestinian Authority) will be held financially responsible for medical treatment provided to terrorists imprisoned in Israel.

According to the proposal, the State of Israel will not fund medical treatments for terrorists, and in effect the amount will be deducted from tax revenues transferred to the PA according to the Paris Agreements, Yediot Achronot reports. This is due to the fact the PA continues to finance terrorists and their families, money taken from the PA budget.

The State of Israel spends about NIS 27 million annually to provide the imprisoned terrorists with medical care.

The new bill states that “the rationale behind this determination is that whoever acted out of an ideology that undermines the existence of the state will not receive medical treatment funded by the citizens he sought to harm. Anyone who chooses to join forces with the bitter enemies of the state, and is injured by his hostile actions, will pay for the medical treatment required due to those actions”.
