Municipal Elections In Israel: 6.6 Million Registered Voters


Municipal elections throughout Israel will be held on Tuesday, 21 Marcheshvan, October 30, 2018. For a first time, the municipal elections will be a national holiday and as such, schools, government offices and banks will be closed. The nation’s lawmakers decided to declare the day a national holiday in the hope it will result in increased voter turnout.

Nationwide, there are 6.6 million registered voters and there will be 11,000 voting station in 251 cities and municipalities.

In preparation for the local elections, the Ministry of the Interior will open the Control & Communications Room on Election Day, which will run from 7:00AM until after election results are in.

Next to the control room will be a communications studio connected to a mobile phone, which will be available to the various communication channels. The control room will coordinate the current data and updates throughout Election Day, starting with the opening of the polling stations, providing the media with information as voting takes place.
