Yechiell: Nobody ever said it’s assur to not wear a black hat. Your understanding of changing minhag is very poor. Dress trends of a certain time period don’t constitute an official minhag. There’s also no written mesora I know of that Jews wore turbans 2000 years ago. People just like to assume they did to compare us to Arabs.
