Supporters of Reuven Rivlin, who is viewed as the party elder, was informed by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that Mr. Netanyahu will not support him for a second term as Knesset Speaker. It appears the prime minister has decided to support Yuli Edelstein, the outgoing Minister of Diaspora Affairs, who will not be appointment to a cabinet post in this administration.
It would appear that due to Rivlin’s popularity in the Knesset, the prime minister is replacing him with the realization that permitting him to remain in the media spotlight would add to his popularity and make him a difficult candidate to beat should he announce his candidacy for president, a likely move. As such, with rumors afloat that retired Likud MK and foreign minister David Levy is already working behind the scenes to secure the post, it appears Mr. Rivlin will not seek the post of Knesset Speaker in the incoming administration, realizing that without the prime minister’s support, it would not be a wise decision on his part.

Politics does not have a pleasant scent…
Sad sad to remove such a Mensch from the seat of speaker of the house. The Rivlin family are ‘vatikim’ of Eretz Yisroel who are traditional, lovers of am yisroel and Eretz Yisroel. Reuven has gained the respect of all knesset members and has been the ISH SHALOM of the Knesset.
