After being blasted with pesticides, the locusts which arrived last week from Egypt to southern Israel have been seen in the center and north of the country. Authorities received reports of locust sightings along the beaches.
The locusts seen in the center of the country are believed from among the hundreds of thousands that arrived in the south of the country early last week but others are from another group that arrived from Egypt on Friday 26 Adar 5773. Locusts were seen in Herzliya, Zichron Yaakov, Tel Aviv and Caesarea.
Agriculture Ministry officials report that when another swarm was detected on erev Shabbos, crop dusting planes were used to dowse them with pesticides. This continued on Shabbos morning. Ministry officials admit additional swarms may have entered Israel from Egypt. This is still being investigated.
