On Monday evening, NYC Comptroller Bill Thompson took time out of his busy schedule to meet with the dedicated volunteers of Flatbush Shomrim. The Comptroller arrived at approximately 6:00PM, and spent roughly 45 minutes chatting with Shomrim personnel. Shomrim Coordinator Chaim Deutsch gave a detailed description of how the members of Flatbush Shomrim keep the streets safe, and make the community a better place to live.
The Comptroller was particularly surprised upon hearing that Flatbush Shomrim were responsible for hundreds of arrests – just in 2007 alone.
Also attending the meeting was NYC Councilman Michael Nelson – who is no stranger to Flatbush Shomrim. Councilman Nelson along with the Brooklyn Borough President have just assisted in allocating a large grant to Flatbush Shomrim – which will enable them to purchase a state of the art command center (MERVE), and hi-tech radio system [which will prevent unauthorized people from monitoring their radio system].
Comptroller Bill Thompson then thanked the Shomrim volunteers for their service to the community, and wished them well.
