Dati Leumi Send Chareidim a Letter Opposing Destruction of Yeshivos

shapiraA number of prominent dati leumi poskim shlita have sent a letter to a number of chareidi rabbonim as they seem to be working to repair the damage caused, the split between the communities following the elections. Among those signed to the letter are Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu Shlita, Rabbi Zalman Melamed Shlita, Rabbi Elyakim Levanon Shlita, Rabbi Yaakov Shapira Shlita, Rabbi Chaim Druckman Shlita, and Rabbi Tzefanya Drori Shlita.

In the open letter published by Kol Yehudi, the rabbonim issue a call not to harm the “Olam HaTorah”, citing “There is no difference between a dati leumi and chareidi yeshiva.”

“The entire Torah is one Torah; Kodesh Kedoshim and the batei medrashim have been the heartbeats of Klall Yisrael since Moshe Rabbeinu.

The letter is signed

“בלב כואב על צערם של ישראל ולומדי התורה הכואבים מכל חשש פגיעה בתורה ובשלום הבית של בניה- בוניה”.

  1. “There is no difference between a dati leumi and chareidi yeshiva.”

Hopefully we will shortly have a similar statement from some of the leading charedi rabbis!

  2. So are they asking their supporters to no longer support Bennett and his party? Given Bayit Yehudi’s position, they are painted into a corner. The only way they could get out without looking like idiots would be to support an independent proposal to end conscription for everyone. Bayit Yehudi faces the prospect that in the next election the pro-settlement faction will complain about putting “share the burden” ahead of supporting settlments, and the more frum faction will complain about start a war against the hareidim, and both will probably support Likud which at this point is both more pro-settlement, and more pro-yeshiva that the “Religious zionist” party.

  3. Aren’t these the same rabbonim that supported the pact between Bennet and Lapid????

    Oh and…
“There is no difference between a dati leumi and chareidi yeshiva.”
Come on, get real,… To say the least , sandals isn’t part of the chareidi dress code

  4. they should have done that before the lapid- bennett pact.
It is a bit too late !!!!!

Tell them to send the letter to Bennett before he signs an agreement. Not that it would help. Daati Leumi has what is called Selective Daas Torah.

Saying do not destroy the Torah but allowing them to conscript the yeshiva boys is a contradiction.

  5. I wonder what caused the dati leumi to see the light of torah? Where were they last week when they spouted what is probably more to their true feelings?

I thank them for making their feelings known so now the Olam HaTorah knows where the leumi stand.

  6. Tell me, chafetz chaim, did Rabi Akiva’s talmidim wear sandals or bekeshes? The implicit smug insult to sandal wearing bachurei yeshiva, learning the same blatt gemoro, but perhaps having served in a tank or other combat unit first, is very, very clear. Same blatt. Same Torah. Same am yisroel, if you’ve forgotten.

  7. Six of them put out an ambiguous letter and it’s a turning point after 111 years of treachery? When they unseat Bennet and rip up his platform, I’ll start to believe it.

  8. This letter is very encouraging. The Bnei Torah of the DL community must be very uncomfortable with the rhetoric coming out of the Bayit Hayehudi/Yesh Atid Party’s. One has to realize that there is a major difference between the Kollel/Bnei Torah families of the Dati Leumi & the Modern Mizrachi baali batim! I think the letter is meant to say, they too believe in Ki Heim Chayeinu Vi’orech Yomeinu! They too believe in Kavod Hatorah. They too believe in Kavod Talmidey Chachomim. Bennett is a Modern baal haabos who has no idea of the chashivus of Bnei Torah. If he sticks with the wicked Lapid/Peron, he will fall & when they go to re’election he will lose all the Frum DL votes!

  9. chafetz chaim – You should study your namesake’s Sforim…
Since when does the type of shoe determine the value of the Torah learned?

  10. time for some serious soul searching for all members of the dati leumi community who claim to value a life of torah and mitzvos.
can political considerations really be more important than ideology? do they really feel they are more in line with lapid than with shas/utj?
are their shittos regarding charedim and the army more important than thier vision for a religious state?

we are in ikvese d’meshicha and there’s no more time to ‘sit on the fence’. modox, mizrachi, chardal etc. please show us your true colours!

  11. chafetz chaim:
They are not talking about sandals here. They mean “There is no difference between” the learning in “a dati leumi and chareidi yeshiva”.

  12. “Chafetz chaim” what an inappropriate name. For such a shallow anti semite who feels if religous jews dress differently then they aren’t the same level. Learn some torah and stop judging people. Many whom can learn much better than you and know a lot more than you.
A jew is still a jew. A shomer shabbos jew is definitely an equal. Upstairs is an upside down world.

  13. Why should there be a diffr between these parties, they all have children and grandchildren, and are horrified to ever see them go into a dangerous battlefield.
They’re just acting like good parents.

  14. of course they are not against yeshivas neither is anybody else all they are saying that 18 year old must do service like everybody else.

saying that secular must do service is not saying they are against college.

The big lie has been exposed for all to see

  15. “There is no difference between a dati leumi and chareidi yeshiva.”
Their conscience forces them to say that. My conscience forces me to the opposite conclusion.

R’ Shlomo Wolbe z”l noted about the mizrachi yeshivos that their relationship to Torah reflected that to them it lacked ‘Toras Chaim’.
(plausibly, he would have referred to some chareidim as well)

  16. yes sandals which goes along with shorts in the beis medrash is not kovod hatorah! consensus has it.

DL doesnt see the issue with it. there is a huge disconnect between DL tzugang to torah and the chareidi
    tzugang lets not kid ourselves

  17. wow wow wow … relax
lets analize what i said and maybe some people misunderstood

    1) If these arent the same rabbonim who supported the pact between Lapid and Bennet , how can the both write this letter or support lapid and bennet and both do it “in the name of Dati Leumi?” and yes I understand a machlokes is a machlokes, but such agrand one like this?

    2) My reffernce to the sandals; I didnt mean to insult anyone, notice i said to “say the least” meaning just that( the least that matters but still different), the fundamental differences between the Chareidi hashkafos and the Mizrachi ones are quite great and it upset me that they compared the two yeshivos as if there are no differences, and the refference to “sandals” was just “lesaber es ha’ozen” and not to use that as the dettermining difference. of course they learn, and have talmidei chachomim etc. my point wasnt against that

oh and “realistchareidi” :antisemite?? my own cousins are mizrachi and i love them with a full heart, you took things WAY out of proportion
