5 Israel Transportation Ministry Officials Detained For Questioning On Corruption Charges


A senior Transportation Ministry official was detained for questioning on Wednesday morning, 24 Tishrei, on suspicion of receiving bribes from one of the bus companies in Israel in exchange for the benefits. Four other suspects were detained along with the suspect. The police raided their homes and offices on Wednesday morning and confiscated computers and documents relevant to the investigation.

According to the police, “in light of evidence that raised suspicions of additional offenses, the national unit for the fight against economic crime in Lahav 433, Israel’s Serious Crimes Unit, opened an investigation. At the end of a period during which covert activity took place, on Wednesday morning, five suspects were detained for questioning and two other suspects were detained on suspicion of involvement in bribery, fraud and breach of trust, as well as other offenses. Among the detainees is a senior civil servant in a government ministry.”

The police emphasized that this is an investigation conducted by the Israel Police and accompanied by the Jerusalem District Attorney’s Office, focusing on the phenomenon of public corruption. The suspects were brought for questioning by the police and arraigned in a Rishon L’Tzion court.
