The thousands of visitors to the Kever of R’ Shimon Bar Yochai in Meron are in danger of a terrorist attack, Rabbi Mordechai Halperin tells the Jerusalem Post. Rabbi Halperin, who is the chairman of Moshav Meron, and is responsible for the day to day operation at the Kever, says that no visitors are required to go through any security checks.
“Just this weekend a man who turned out to be an Arab was wandering around the place, apparently gathering information,” said Halperin, who plans to present evidence of the security risk to a Knesset committee on Monday.
MK Yackov Litzman (UTJ) initiated the discussion in the Knesset – just two months ahead of Lag Ba’omer, when an approximate 500,000 people visit the Kever – in an attempt to sort out who is responsible for managing the site.
