A 30-year-old Israeli woman who was touring near the Jordanian city of Petra died on Wednesday of a heat stroke during a hike in the Rajef inselbergs. The information was cleared for publication on Thursday after Israeli officials were able to verify the death and contact the woman’s family.
Officials from Israel’s Foreign Ministry are negotiating with their Jordan counterparts in order to arrange the transfer of the woman’s body to Israel.
According to preliminary reports that emanated from the scene, the people traveling with her attempted to treat the woman for her condition with the resources that they had available. Rescue crews who were summoned to the scene of the emergency were unable to revive the woman and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
