The Israel Air Force ordered all F-16I fighter jets grounded Friday, after a carcinogenic material was found in the cockpit.
Recently, a number of pilots complained of a bad smell coming from the cockpit and IAF Commander Eliezer Shkedy ordered tests to be conducted by military medical authorities and aerial medical units in order to determine the origin of the odors.
The Medical Corps examination found that the material in question was formaldehyde, which was recently recognized as a carcinogenic substance in high levels of exposure. Although traces of the material were only found in one plane, the IAF chief decided to completely stop training in all the most recent models until the conclusion of the investigation.
The results have been passed along to Lockheed Martin – who is assisting the IAF in correcting this problem.

Don’t be so technical.. Explain what “Carcinogenic” means.
“The term carcinogen refers to any substance, radionuclide or radiation that is an agent directly involved in the promotion of cancer or in the facilitation of its propagation.”
