It seems that many pizza handlers are exempted from wearing gloves during the making of the dough as well as after its backed.
Is there anyone in the pizza making business who can shed some light on this subject?
It seems quite discusting to say the least watching the dough guy or girl pressing and shaping the dough with long dirty nails . Also why are they not required to wear a hair net?September 6, 2018 4:17 pm at 4:17 pm #1588521JosephParticipantIt’s also disgusting to see people eat pizza with their bare hands without using utensils.

September 6, 2018 5:55 pm at 5:55 pm #1588676Takes2-2tangoParticipantJoseph, i bet you eat kokosh cake with a knife and fork. And if not, why not?
September 6, 2018 7:23 pm at 7:23 pm #1588766MilhouseParticipantJoseph, that is the normal derech of eating it, and it’s funny to see people eating it with utensils.

There u go . I Nail-ed for you!September 6, 2018 7:23 pm at 7:23 pm #1588596ubiquitinParticipant“It seems quite discusting to say the least watching ”
The solution is simple don’t watch . what goes on behind closed doors is far worse than mere hand touching , if you dont see it it doesnt bother you. so don’t watch this either

The problem doesnt stop before it goes into the oven. It continues when u ask for a slice or two and he/she uses thier bare hands to separate the slices and puts it on your plate with thier long nailed hands.
How do they get away with this?
I can not understand why they are exempted from wearing gloves once its out of the oven. Absolutely grossifying!September 6, 2018 8:33 pm at 8:33 pm #1588788JosephParticipantIf you had the slightest idea how many rats infect the kitchen of any restaurant or how the food preparers prepare the food behind the kitchen doors in any restaurant, you’d never eat in a restaurant again.
The only difference with a pizza store is that unlike other restaurants they make the food in front of you. And you see how bad it is. In the fancier restaurants where they don’t dare let you in the kitchen or see the shmutz near the food, it is so much worse.
September 6, 2018 9:21 pm at 9:21 pm #1588810Ex-CTLawyerParticipantHealth Department regulations vary by jurisdiction. Gloves are not required in all cities/counties/states. Clean hands/nails are required. Hair nets may only be required for hair longer than a specified length.
COMPLAIN TO THE OWNER, refuse to patronize the pizza shop if they don’t clean up their act.
You could call the Health Department, but many in the CR refuse to issue a complaint to government about a fellow JewSeptember 6, 2018 10:01 pm at 10:01 pm #1588836Takes2-2tangoParticipantSince when is a health hazard considered mesira , especially after talking to them nicely?
September 6, 2018 11:54 pm at 11:54 pm #15888542qwertyParticipantSome bagel places have their workers wear gloves but what’s the point if they wear them the whole day and touch everything in them?
September 7, 2018 8:42 am at 8:42 am #1588941Ex-CTLawyerParticipant@2QWERTY
Gloves are supposed to be changed when a worker changes tasks. So the worker at the counter uses gloves to pick your bagels from the bin and place them in the bag. Then the worker must remove gloves before handling the transaction at the cash register. A fresh pair is put on for the next task.If merchants know that abuses of health rules will not be reported to government, they get lax in enforcing the rules.
September 7, 2018 12:35 pm at 12:35 pm #1589038apushatayidParticipantI’m more concerned with the roll of tape from the hashgacha that the non jewish workers seem to be in control of. In one local pizza shop, the roll sits a foot from the door, and anyone could simply walk off with it.
September 7, 2018 12:36 pm at 12:36 pm #1589036Yserbius123ParticipantThere are many food preparations that go on in restaurants without gloves. You just don’t see them. As long as the preparer washes their hands properly, there’s no issue. Gloves can be just as bad if they are kept on and used to touch various unclean surfaces.
Everyone else: @Joseph is a major troll on CR. She/He regularly says things to evoke a reaction. Please ignore him/her.
September 7, 2018 12:44 pm at 12:44 pm #1589041MenoParticipantI was once at a pizza place that served breakfast, I ordered eggs, the guy touched the cooked eggs with his gloved hand, put the eggs on my sandwich, then licked the glove.
I still ate it.
Has anyone here even gotten sick or noticed a difference in the pizza because the workers behind the counter didn’t wear gloves?
September 7, 2018 2:23 pm at 2:23 pm #1589062👑RebYidd23ParticipantIf something is gross but doesn’t make you sick, it’s better just not to see the process.
September 7, 2018 2:23 pm at 2:23 pm #1589061GenyaParticipantBetter to buy frozen pizza and heat it up at home yourself.
September 7, 2018 4:57 pm at 4:57 pm #1589095👑RebYidd23ParticipantFrozen pizza is also prepared by people.
September 7, 2018 5:40 pm at 5:40 pm #1589086DovidBTParticipantBetter to buy frozen pizza and heat it up at home yourself.
It’s actually possible to make a pizza from basic ingredients at home. It’s very similar to baking bread. 🙂
A related question: If a monkey were trained to make a pizza, would that be halachically permitted? Assume the monkey’s training includes proper hygiene, such as hand washing, and wearing gloves and a hairnet (or in this case, perhaps a “bodynet”).
September 8, 2018 10:59 pm at 10:59 pm #1589237Takes2-2tangoParticipantIts cheaper in the long run to trane a robot then to trane a monkey.

Maybe, maybe not. Monkey-made-pizza shops might have better prospects for government grants and franchising opportunites.
September 9, 2018 1:40 am at 1:40 am #1589271Takes2-2tangoParticipantOnly if they monkey around are they entitled to government grants.
September 9, 2018 12:37 pm at 12:37 pm #1589367👑RebYidd23ParticipantGet the robot to train the monkey.
September 12, 2018 1:49 pm at 1:49 pm #1590095apushatayidParticipantI’m still waiting for “Pizza is not a yiddish meichel you deserve to get sick eating fascist food” comment that is par for the course in the CR.
