About six weeks ago, Givati Brigade officer Bar Vaknin was transported to the trauma unit of Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva after being injured by sniper fire along the Gaza border, hit in his abdomen and chest. He was taken into emergency surgery and admitted to a surgical intensive care unit until his condition stabilized. He was then moved to a surgical unit.

Bar underwent a rehabilitation process at the Soroka Rehabilitation Department. The rehabilitation process included physical assistance until the bullet wound was healed and he reached an independent state, including a stable walking gait was incorporated into it.

This week, a special follow-up program to permit his release from the hospital was designed for him.

The Givati officer said, “ “I am very happy to receive the good news regarding my upcoming release, and I underwent a rehabilitation process with an amazing, embracing team that soon became my family. I would like to personally thank Dr. Yuli Trager, Director of the Rehabilitation Department, and Dr. Gilbert Sabag, Head of the Surgical Department B, who led the process for my treatment and recovery.”

Dr. Yuli Trager, Director of the Rehabilitation Department at Soroka, said: “Bar arrived at the Rehabilitation Department after a severe trauma, well beyond the bullet wound he suffered. Back muscles were injured as well, leaving him unable to stand independently. He stood bent and was unable to walk on his own.

“Bar is a true fighter and his courageous character is also reflected by his recovery. He underwent a difficult process of physical and mental rehabilitation and managed to go through all the stages of recovery in an exceptional way. I must mention Moshe, Bar’s father, and his amazing family, which has a significant part in the success of the rehabilitation.”
