IDF Kitchens Working Hard Ahead Of Rosh Hashanah

As Rosh Hashanah draws near, IDF kitchens are working in earnest to churn out the Yomtov meals for so many soldiers and officers. This year, in preparation for the Tishrei Yomim Tovim, the Purchasing Manager of the Ministry of Defense and the Food Division in the IDF’s Technology & Logistics Division were preparing to supply food items of a wide variety of types, so that IDF soldiers would enjoy the holiday.

The kitchen managers in the IDF units are already working on preparing rich, healthy and varied menus tailored to the needs of the soldiers. Among other things, the IDF opened a special option for soldiers from various bases to choose the yomtov meal that will be served via the IDF website, and the various menus were presented to the soldiers who were asked to choose. The most popular menus were published on the website.

The purchasing unit responsible for providing the food to make the menus reports that 15 tons of apples were bought ahead of yomtov, as were 3 tons of honey, 10 tons of fish, 1,500 frozen cooked fish, 60 tons of turkey and chicken, and 25 tons of beef. In addition, this year, 2,500 prepared meals will be distributed to soldiers in outposts and/or those assigned to protect yishuvim and those out at sea.

In addition, 3 tons of dried fruits were purchase, as were 7 tons of pomegranates, 5 tons of fresh yellow dates, and for dessert, 8 tons of cakes. The soldiers and officers will raise their glasses with 7,500 bottles of grape juice and 23,000 bottles of soft drinks that are being distributed to bases around the country.

The Procurement Manager of the Ministry of Defense and the IDF Food Service, are making great efforts to enable all IDF soldiers to celebrate the Tishrei Yomim Tovim and enjoy their meals as they wish them all a Happy New Year.
