One wonders just how much more expensive it can get to fill one’s vehicle with gas, but in Israel, it appears that the sky’s the limit. In the planned hike to take place at the week’s end, a liter of 95 octane gasoline at a self service pump will jump from 7.83 NIS to 8.01 NIS. At the full service pump the same liter of gasoline will cost 8.19 NIS.
Based on the closing rate of Tuesday 16 Adar 5773, the dollar/shekel rate was 3.73. That means a liter of self service gasoline will cost $8.58/US gallon and full service will cost $8.78/US gallon.
Calls to lower taxes on gasoline seem to be falling on deaf ears as it becomes increasingly prohibitively expensive to fill one’s vehicle at the pumps.
