Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau Shlita has sent a letter to US President Barak Obama in which he speaks of HKBH placing him in command of the most powerful country in the world and how Jonathan Pollard has been imprisoned for close to 10,000 days. In the personal letter to the US Commander and Chief, the former Chief Rabbi of Israel writes that it has been 28 years and Pollard continues to linger in a US prison, in declining health.
Rabbi Lau reminds the president of how Pollard assisted an ally nation, not an enemy, and he has expressed remorse for his actions. The rav makes reference to Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. in his letter as well.
The rav quotes Shmuel (Chapter 14) as Am Yisrael shouted “היונתן ימות?” explaining this pertains to Yonatan ben Shaul, which cries in solidarity with Yonatan Pollard. Rav Lau reminds Mr. Obama of the appeals made by President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, along with tens of thousands of residents of Israel, along with US officials such as Professor Henry Kissinger and George Shultz, he asked to include his name among those personally seeking Pollard’s release.

Maybe secretary jack Lew can help to convince the president. Some Israeli official should send him a letter to ask him to help.
