Suspect Nabbed While Tearing Down An Election Poster In Jerusalem

A police stakeout succeeded in its mission, apprehending a suspect in the act – tearing down an election poster in Jerusalem.

Jerusalem police report on Thursday, 19 Elul, that a stakeout was placed in position as part of the crackdown against extremists who feel they have the right to tear down any posters they find objectionable.

Police during the night were strategically placed in areas of the capital and during the operation, police apprehended a man in his 50s, tearing down posters in the Rechavia neighborhood.

The suspect was taken into custody.

History Being Made In The Bnei Brak Elections

For the first time in Bnei Brak: A party list that includes all the city’s residents: Secular, chareidi, dati leumi, Sephardim and Ashkenazim will vie for seats on the city council.

In fact, for many years there has been no Israeli list for the city council, and Yahadut Hatorah and Shas have divided the city council for themselves, and for the first time, according to a poll, is likely to receive three seats on the council.

The man behind the list is the head of the Likud in Bnei Brak, Yaakov Wider, who has been working for years to help the Zionist minority in the city and struggled for its place. Among other activities initiated by Wider, a memorial service for IDF soldiers buried in Bnei Brak, which succeeded. With some of the other members of the list, they prevented the closing of the Tzvia dati leumi ulpana (high school) in the city, which city leaders slated for closing.

Wider said: “The askanim take care of those close to them and we take care of the residents. There are 27 members of the city council. do any of them represent the public? Not a single one. In the last Knesset elections, about 10,000 Bnei Brak residents voted for Zionist parties, and I am certain everyone will understand the importance and come out and vote, for it is ‘we’ or ‘them’.”

A former advisor to a deputy minister of education, Udi Tena, a resident of Bnei Brak who is expected to be placed in second place on the list, said: “This is a holiday day in which all the Zionist streams unite together for the general needs of the religious, chareidi, Israeli-traditional and secular public in the city; an exciting reunion that is expected to spark a revolution that has been waiting in the city for many years.”

Minister Ze’ev Elkin’s 3rd Grader Son Ariel Appears In Jerusalem Campaign Video

The Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and mayoral candidate was videoed with his son Ariel, who is in third grade, in a video in which Elkin promises budgets and school hours in Jerusalem

In preparation for the opening of the school year on Sunday, 15 Elul, Ze’ev Elkin released a humorous video with his son Ariel, who is in third grade. In the first part of the video, the son asks for free lessons and lots of breaks. Ariel also asked that during the 10:00AM break, they distribute soccer-related items from the Betar Jerusalem team and that they study soccer players. In addition, he wishes to see the school coolers distributing chocolate milk instead of water.

However, int the second portion of the video, Elkin steps in and says “While I cannot promise all of this, I can promise schools will be budgeted properly, with additional hours of classroom study and education will receive a greater portion of the budgetary pie”.

Jerusalem Mayoral Candidate Deutsch Continues To Speak Out About the Building Freeze

Jerusalem mayoral candidate Yossi Deutsch continues to speak out regarding the building freeze in the capital, warning once again that if Minister Ze’ev Elkin is elected as the city’s next mayor, the building freeze will continue.

As reported, the chareidi mayoral candidate maintains that Elkin is “too committed” to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and that is why, if elected as the city’s mayor, he will not betray his loyalty to Mr. Netanyahu, and the building freeze will continue. He added that current mayor, Nir Barkat, is also “committed” to the prime minister, and that is why the building freeze exists today.

Deutsch released his second open letter to the public on the building freeze issue.

In latest polls, from a number of days ago, Deutsch does not fair well among dati leumi and secular voters, in fact, he earns 1% of the vote, but this is not surprising.

However, in a previous poll reflecting the view of eligible voters from all sectors, from 12 Elul, Deutsch trails behind candidates Elkin (31.9%) and Berkowitz (24.6%), receiving 20.3% of the vote. Moshe Leon was in fourth place with 13% of the vote.
