It appears that political contact between Shas and Degel Hatorah is alive and well, as there was a secret meeting on Monday night, which is revealed in an exclusive Kikar Shabbos News report.

According to the report, a meeting was held in Deri’s official vehicle, with Deri and Yanki Kanievsky, a grandson of HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita, meeting outside Binyanei Ha’uma. Deri was seen wearing sunglasses, and it is explained he underwent a medical procedure on his eyes.

Deri was attending a simcha in Binyanei Ha’uma, but the news is not his meeting during the simcha with Meir Rabin, who was one of the defendants convicted in the Holyland affair, but his meeting outside with Yanki.

Yanki plays a major role in Degel affairs, particularly now, with municipal elections taking place around the country. Shas has been complaining that Degel and Shlomei Emunim are conducting talks, while it has been excluded to date, pertaining to elections in Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh and Elad. Some opine that brief three-minute meeting was connected to the elections in these cities.
