Would you go to a middle eastern restaurant called The Kosher Guys who’s name would be a knockoff of The Halal Guys?

According to you we should stop using the term sirloin when it comes to meat because n essence the ” real”sirloin is from the rear part of the cow which is ossur to eat.

    I dont understand the question.
I would go to the Halal guys if it had a reliable hashgacha, tasted good and was reasonably priced. why should “Kosher guys” be worse

Joseph, why not, if it has a proper hashgacha?

Knock-off name or not, it’s good that supposed restaurant has Kosher & Jewish pride.

In Paris, some “Kosher” restaurants are ditching Hechsheirim because (among other reasons) the snobby (non-Jewish) Parisians consider restaurants with Kosher supervision sub-standard.

Additionally, if a restaurant is truly Kosher, having the word Kosher makes it easier to locate for newcomers. So it’s a win-win unless the Halal Guys decide to sue for brand infringement, which doesn’t seem likely to me.

laskern: If the name is a knock-off of a treif restaurant that they idolize, thus mimicking the name, that would bother me and I’m not sure I’d be comfortable trusting such proprietors. So, as a consumer, I’d choose not to patronize that establishment. (I wouldn’t organize a boycott.)

Trusting them in regards to what? That it’s really kosher? That’s the mashgiach’s job!

Joseph, There is a restaurant in Boro Park called Mc Fleishig and no one has any problems with it.

    Takes2:
I don’t get the mushul. You shouldn’t use Sirloin to describe meat that isn’t Sirloin. Kosher places usually say “mock-whatever.”

    All Kosher:
    The Pickle Guys
    Two Guys Kosher Grill
    Kosher Dudes
    The Hummus Guy
    The Cheese Guy*

*Offers a selection of OU-D Chalav Yisroel cheeses

…. Do you think that The Halal Guys is an original restaurant name, and do you think that nationwide eatery establishment and restaurant name trends had no influence on the company’s naming? Five Guys. The Pizza Guys. Pizza Guys. The Bread Guy Bakery. The Cupcake Lady. Pho Guys. Soup Guy Plus. The Original Soupman. Wise Guys Pizzeria… etc.

All of these Guy, Guy-derivative, and like-genre-sounding names were selected, hopefully and one can expect, because the company’s decision-maker(s) cared enough to create a brand name that was predicted to at least have a good chance of attracting their targeted audiences into spending significant dollars in their food service establishments.

Back when I was a teenager: McDovid’s (rip off of Mc’Donald’s name) burger joint in Washington Heights, near Yeshiva University.

No one had a problem eating there because of the name

    @Coffee Addict…………….
I’m not bringing the proof from YU. I noted the location. It was frequented by many friends from Breuer’s in the heights.

By the way, the people who had problems with the name, as well as McFleishiges are the McDonald’s Corporation, who issued cease and desist trademark infringement letters…causing the name changes

True, the McDonald’s corporation had a problem with the name, as did the local Jewish community in Boro Park.

Why is the OP (and others) making an assumption that the owners of this establishment even heard of “Halal guys”?!
    I am don lkav zchus
    Mcfleishig on the other hand….
But I have a much bigger problem with “kosher” restaurants playing goyish music

Sushi Meshuga had to change its name to Sushi Meshuna, so definitely the Frum community/hechsheirim prefer “clean & Kosher” names.

Yet to me having an issue with the “Kosher Guys” seems like going overboard, and most customers won’t even ״chap” that there’s any controversy surrounding the name.

I don’t chap what the problem with the name Sushi Meshuga is, Mammele.
