A Utah mother decided to donate nearly $400 worth of toys that her 6-year-old daughter secretly ordered from Amazon to a Salt Lake City children’s hospital.
Catherine Lunt didn’t learn about her daughter’s secret shopping spree until it was too late to stop most of the orders, she told KSL-TV on Tuesday.
“On Friday, I just went online to check something and I noticed a couple items there that I hadn’t ordered,” she said. “I canceled them because they hadn’t been shipped yet, and then I started looking and there was about three more pages of items.”
The family shared a photo of Katelyn smiling mischievously next to the stack of Amazon boxes on social media. Their story went viral.
After Lunt learned what her daughter had done, she said she considered returning the toys to Amazon, but decided they should go to the Primary Children’s Hospital instead.
“Katelyn was in Primary Children’s when she was born, so we’ve been wanting to donate something over there,” Lunt said. “She actually had a stroke the first week she was born.”
The mother hopes to keep Katelyn, who is starting first grade this week, off online shopping.
“She’s not in too much trouble, but she will be in lots of trouble if it happens again,” Lunt said.
