A new poll has been released on the Jerusalem mayoral elections, showing candidate Ofir Berkowitz of the Hisorarus party has lost his lead, now a percentage point behind the chareidi candidate, Yossi Deutsch. In the last poll, released on August 10th, Berkowitz was ahead of Deutsch by less a bit over a percentage point.
Following are the results of the poll released by Chadashot 12 News on Monday evening, the eve of 3 Elul.
• 23% Yossi Deutsch (Agudas Yisrael)
• 22% Ofir Berkowitz (Hisorarus)
• 21% Ze’ev Elkin (Likud)
The other candidates are not in realistic positions. The poll also shows the outcome of second round runoff elections; citing two likely scenarios.
• 39% Berkowitz
• 36% Elkin
• 42% Elkin
• 31% Deutsch
Clearly, the race among the top three candidates is quite close, and the outcome of polls may and will most likely change as the election nears. In addition, obtaining the support of organizations, political parties and public officials are likely to impact the elections as well. Voter turnout will also significantly impact the outcome, which usually works in favor of the chareidim.
