Israel Fire Department: The Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Express Train Doesn’t Have an Operating Permit

There have been many delays in the launch of the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv express train, with the last stating the train will not begin running this Sukkos as hoped, but in the middle of 2019.

Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz has come under harsh criticism as the train is plagued with too many setbacks, resulting in delays in the launch.

According to a MyNet Jerusalem report, while there is optimism the train will soon run, it has been learned Israel Railways has yet to obtain an operating permit from the Fire Department. According to officials in the fire service, there has not been a permit issued for the new express rail line, and without such a permit, it cannot operate legally.

Some are still hopeful the train will begin, albeit with a very limited service, around Sukkos 5779, but according to fire officials, this cannot happen until an operating permit is issued. As for the light rail, the accusations of blame and counter-accusations continue between train management, workers and the ministry; each blaming the other for the lag in the line’s launch.

  1. Not so simple. This is Israel. Everyone wants to show he is the boss and in reality probably none of them know what to do. A project of this size should have been outsourced to an International consortium experienced in building rail lines like this.
