According to a BDI report, 41,500 businesses closed their doors in Israel in 2012, representing a 6% increase from 2011 and a 12% increase from 2008. There was a 7% decline in new businesses opening in 2012 as well, in line with a downward trend in the last three consecutive years.
The Gush Dan area is home to 34% of the companies and businesses in Israel, but BDI reports the business failures in that area only amount for 27% of the total in 2012.
16% of failed businesses in 2012 were in Haifa, the Krayot and the Western Galil. 9% of the businesses that closed their doors were in Yerushalayim and the surrounding area.
