Reply to akuperma: The Democrats of the pre-Civil War 19th Century were the party of slavery and slave holders. Yes, some of them wanted to annex Mexico, but their plan was to have Mexico admitted as a slave state (or states), so that they could expand their plantations. What that has to do with the current issue of border control is a mystery to me – and probably you as well.
