Israel: Treasury Seeks to Appease with Limited Dairy Price Hike

Following the intervention of treasury officials, the planned 6.3% price hike on many dairy items was knocked down to a 3.5% hike, rejecting the recommended hike which officials feared would result in a national outcry.

Finance Minister Dr. Yuval Steinitz said “In light of the fact that we are dealing with a sharp price increase in a basic item, I deemed it necessary to recommend a proportional increase while additional inspections of the issue are completed.”

Some of the price hikes as follows:

1. 1 liter bag of milk from 5.04 to 5.21

2. 100 grams of butter from 3.73 to 3.86

3. 1 liter carton of 3% milk from 6.27 to 6.44

4. 1kg of Emek hard cheese from 44.52 to 46.10

5. A container of 4.5% Eshel from 1.59 to 1.64

6. 15% sour cream from 2.37 to 2.45

7. 3% Gil from 1.45 to 1.50 k
