It’s just that lottery winners are pre selected to be bad with money. Before they won, they wasted what little they had on lottery tickets.

What about those who only buy on an occasional basis? Are those more likely to succeed?

Someone once complained to Hashem that he never wins the lottery, so He said to him, did you ever buy a lottery ticket?

There have been people who found a winning ticket that they did not buy.

Misasek b’kuvia are pasul l’eidus be cause they have a chazaka of untrustworthiness. Note that, at least in dinei mamonus, if the litigants agree to accept the eidus of a gambler, his testimony is accepted. The p’sul of misasek is not intrinsic. It is simply a chazaka. Do lottery purchasers have such a chazaka? I think not.

There were some great tzaddikim that bought lottery tickets. Not everyone agrees, but certainly Yesh Al Mi Lismoch, so it can’t be totally assur or a P’sul.

Certainly it must have only been occasionally, because Leis Man D’Palig that buying it regularly is a waste of money.

There is a Chassidishe legend about a certain tzaddik who learned and did chessed every minute of the day. Once every few months when funds ran low, he did his ‘Hishtadlus’ by buying a lottery ticket (and winning apparently.) But I think no one today is on that level of bitachon and Melumad Binissim (a Baal Mofes).

Buying one ticket opens up the possibility. Buying more than one is foolishness.

In places where lottery winners can be anonymous, they probably do better.

statistically, (i just googled it) 70% of lottery winners go broke.
Jewish people are normally more financially successful than average, so wouldn’t most of the people in the CR have at least a 60% chance of having a nice post lottery life?

I wonder how much would even be left over once a winning frum family put aside funds for tuition for 8+ kids, a house and weddings… That makes it more likely that it would just be a Brocha and not ruin their lives by encouraging them to be non productive.
