Israel Electric Company officials have announced a willingness to begin employing non-Jews on Shabbos only, and will move to a generator if there is sufficient request for Shabbos electricity.
To date, at least 128,131 requests from families have been received by the utility company for Shabbos electricity.
Israel Electric has extended the period for requests until the end of this week, setting its goal at 500,000 requests.
To register, one has to dial *6665, then push 1 and then follow directions. One has to provide name, address, phone, and identity number to the computer, and then one receives a registration confirmation number.
