Newly-elected Bayit HaYehudi MK Avi Wortzman is calling on US President Barak Obama to release Jonathan Pollard ahead of his upcoming visit to Israel in the spring of 2013. The rookie parliamentarian is spearheading a call to the American president, seeking to enlist the support of his fellow MKs to support the move to demand Pollard’s release.

Wortzman began on Sunday 1 Rosh Chodesh Adar 5773 to sign on his follow MKs to his letter, explaining he feels we may not pass this opportunity to once again seek to obtain Pollard’s release.

In his letter to Mr. Obama the MK explains how clemency towards Pollard would be an act of humanity as he has served so many years in prison and is known to be in a poor state of health. He adds it would also be a positive gesture to Israel, a staunch ally and on the issue of his release there is no left and right. The Knesset is united regarding its desire to see Pollard set free.
