Jews For Morality Holds News Conference On Heels Of Spitzer Scandal

Today’s Journal news  has an article titled “Orthodox Jews call for an end to immoral behavior by elected officials”.

Posted below are excerpts:

A group of concerned Orthodox Jews said today’s American society was so morally deteriorated that it resembled the Weimar Republic just before it became Nazi Germany.

Jews for Morality and the Rabbinical Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs held a news conference outlining their concerns last night at the Louis Kurtz Civic Center in Spring Valley.

Rabbi Noson Leiter, who is active with Jews for Morality and the founder and director of the rabbinical advisory committee, said though there was much concern, there was also opportunity because increasing numbers of Orthodox Jews were becoming aware of the issues and working toward change.

Orthodox Jews are bound to observe the Torah, the sacred text that stipulates the rules of Jewish life, Leiter said.

But today’s society has become so morally degraded, it is increasingly difficult for Orthodox Jews to live a Torah-observant life. Most importantly, he said, it is becoming harder for Orthodox Jewish families to raise their children in such a society.

The groups want to call attention to the “free fall of standards of decency and basic moral principles in the public arena,” he said. They also want to start a grassroots effort to educate Orthodox Jews about the views of people running for elected office.

They said politicians who approach the community who use the “welfare state” to try to harness votes should be reviewed carefully.

Taking public assistance in exchange for voting for someone in opposition to the Torah’s mandates is morally wrong, he said.

Rabbi Solomon Diamant said people were working to live a morally correct life, and those efforts, no matter how small, should not be undervalued.

“We saw the Weimar Republic,” Diamant said. “It didn’t stay the Weimar Republic. It became the Nazi republic. When you lose the value of life, there’s no stopping.”

  1. Throwing out Spitzer will not necessarily yield you more capable politicians.
Morality by Gentiles does not equal ability.
Last I checked, there is no issur Pilegesh by Goyim.

  2. Oh please! This is ridiculous!! Are we taking our lead from politicians now? How about a better idea. Let’s start a campaign for morality and ethics among ourselves. We would definitely set an example for our children and friends. It would make alot more of a difference than spending our time trying to make a corrupt political system moral. This is just a way to look away from the real problem. Let our children see US acting with honesty, integrity, mentchlichkeit and respect for everyone.

  3. “Jews for Morality and the Rabbinical Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs”? Never heard of them before. Someone should advise these folks that if they want to put themselves on the map they need to do more than just empty talk. They need to ban something.

  4. Levin compared the Time we are in to the time preceding the Hitler rise. I think his point is that just like ‎in the Weimar republic, the society became so decadent, that the people out of desperation for ‎restoring normalcy, (the Weimar republic was known for the decadence the government stooped the ‎people into) voted for a man like Hitler as an anybody but… vote. If the politicians keep treading the ‎decadent path, and bring sexual perversion into our society yet further, the USA may heaven forbid ‎reach a breaking point, that the right wing may even vote for a right wing supremacist, as their last ‎hope for normalcy to return to their communities. Remember that people care about the pebble in ‎their shoe. Goyim would rather see abominations cease, then worry what the fate of the Jewish ‎people would be if they vote in a such and such manner. (I didn’t mean that right wingers are anti ‎Semitic, on the contrary, but they may even out of desperation make a vote for the wrong guy ‎without fully analyzing all the ramifications such as the way Hitler rose to power).‎

  5. “When they compare it to Nazi Germany they will lose all credibility with the public.”
Fully agree. Was anyone thinking “Godwin law”?
