Tzfas Chief Sephardi Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu wants an apology from Shas in light of the words by Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita, labeling the Bayit HaYehudi Party “goyim” as well as other harsh statements released by Shas officials attacking the character of religious commitment of Bayit Yehudi candidates.
Speaking in an interview on the Galei Yisrael “The Heart of the Matter” program, Rav Eliyahu stated “It is not easy for me with Shas regarding the statements released before the elections. I am truly offended. We are not going to move an inch without one of them apologizing.”
Rabbi Eliyahu stated there cannot be talk of “achdus” and working together without an apology.

Better an apology in this world than what is waiting for ‘moetzi shem rah’ in the next world.
If this is what Bayit Ha”yehudi” wants (reducing the status quo) then they are no better than goyim
No one called them goyim!
What was said was that they were a bayis for goyim (as opposed to bayis yehudi) since one of their candidates spoke in favor of civil marriage for mixed couples, and the rest of the party did not protest.
There are such conflicting opinions from the Bayit HaYehudi party of what they actually want and believe.
The definite statements made by high ranking members of the party are chilling. Statements supporting civil intermarriage in Israel, Shabbos public bus transportation and a quota system for yeshiva students is certainly direct contravention of the Torah.
Among these people are also the sincere, learned tzaddikim, Talmidei Chachamim of the Mafdal world.
Now if Rabbi Eliyahu is happy to associate himself with such drastically mixed Hashkofas for the sake of building a strong political party he will have to live with the backlash from Talmidei Chachamim in defense of pure Torah values.
