Marwan Barghouti, 59, heads the Tanzim faction of Fatah. He is currently serving five life sentences in an Israeli prison for his heinous acts of terror, which included the murders of Israelis. He was sentenced in 2004.
According, to a poll by the Palestinian Center for Policy & Survey Research, based in Ramallah, 30% of PA (Palestine Authority) residents would welcome him as the new head of the PA, with Hamas’ former Gaza Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyeh in second place with 23%. Clearly, despite all the talks of peace and dual existence, the PA populace favors terrorists to head them and lead their future. The poll involved 2,150 residents of PA areas throughout Yehuda and Shomron as well as residents of Gaza.
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) is 82 and there is talk regarding who will succeed him. The poll states that 61% of respondents want Abu Mazen to step down while 33% prefer he remains in office.
