Joining many Yesh Atid faction members, there is a group of Likud activists urging Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to assemble a coalition government that does not include Shas, the daily Mekor Rishon reports. They envision a “centrist, Zionist, liberal coalition and by definition, this would not include Shas.”
In the letter the activists sent to the prime minister they explain “experience has taught us how Shas operates and tramples issues of equality, particularly sharing the burden.” The continue explaining that this is the will of the people and as such, Likud, which is forming the government, should abide by the people’s choice.
“This is an opportunity to create new realities and change priorities, to concern ourselves with sharing the burden; both the security and economic towards equality for all,” they conclude.
One well known Likud activist from Yerushalayim, Moshe Effergan, told the media that the people have spoken and the sharing the burden issue highlighted by Yesh Atid must be accepted by Likud as if it is the party’s policy. He warns that many Likud voters will be disappointed if Likud turns its back on Yesh Atid’s agenda.

If Shas will not be allowed in the coalition, other religious parties will not join either because they’re all of the same opinion against those Tel Avivian “elites” draft-dodgers whose goal is to get rid of yiddishkeit once and for all.
Likud is basically a secular party, and many Likudniks joined Likud after rejecting a religious party. The alliance with Shas has never been popular with the Likud rank and file.
