An elderly woman was severely burned in a late-night fire on Saturday in a Williamsburg high-rise, officials said.
On Saturday evening, January 26, 2013 at approximately 11:10PM, the FDNY responded to a 911 call of a residential fire inside of 51 Ross Street, a public housing building located in the Taylor St.-Wythe Ave. Houses. FDNY personnel successfully extinguished a fire inside of an apartment on the 12th floor of the location. Upon extinguishment of the fire, an elderly woman was observed inside of the living room severely burned. EMS who also responded pronounced the woman DOA at the scene.
The NYC Medical Examiner is investigating to determine the cause of death. Fire Marshalls are investigating the cause of the fire; there is no apparent criminality at this time. There were no other apartments inside the building damaged or any individuals displaced due to the fire.
