An armed bandit was shot and seriously wounded on Thursday 13 Shevat 5773 shortly before noon as he tried robbing a Brinks armored vehicle in Ashkelon. The attempted robbery took place on Herzl Street near a branch of the Mashbir department store chain.

A shootout took place between the Brinks personnel and the robbers, during which at least one bandit was wounded. Police arrived in large numbers while checkpoints were set up in the area to prevent the thieves from fleeing the area. A police chopper also took to the skies.

There were no reports of injuries to Brinks or security personnel.
