New York City police are testing a technology that reads body energy to find out whether someone is concealing a weapon.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Wednesday that the tests are preliminary. Officers aren’t getting the device any time soon.
People emit a natural energy known as terahertz. If something is obstructing the flow of that energy, the device highlights the object.
The device resembles body scanners used at airports. Kelly says they’re working to make it portable.
Kelly says he’s not sure how long it will take to develop the technology.
The aim is to get guns off the streets.

NYPD is being sold a crock. The amount of terahertz radiation emitted by an object at blackbody temperature of 300K is minimal.
And, unless you’re up close and personal, the atmospheric attenuation will reduce that minimal signal to undetectable levels.
