Bayit Yehudi: We See Eye-to-Eye with Lapid on the ‘Share the Burden’ Issue

MK Uri Ariel, number two on the Bayit HaYehudi lineup told Channel 2 TV News on Wednesday morning 12 Shevat 5773 that the party consults with “many intelligent and wise people, including rabbonim”.

He stated he is selecting his words carefully regarding the role of rabbonim running party affairs, stating clearly the rabbonim will be acting in an “advisory capacity” but the party faction in Knesset will ultimately decide policy. Ariel was asked if rabbis will call the shots as is the case in the chareidi parties.

Ariel added that it is most unfortunate that Otzma Yisrael did not join the right-wing party as request but instead, “threw away over 60,000 votes”. (From a nationwide perspective, over 200,000 votes were dumped; those parties that failed to reach the minimum threshold).

Ariel was also asked to comment on his party’s position regarding the ‘share the burden’ issue, to which he responded that his party and Yair Lapid are on the same page regarding this issue.

And finally, Ariel stated that he is confident that Netanyahu will once again appoint Ehud Barak as defense minister. When his opinion was challenged by Channel 2’s panel, the veteran MK stated with a smile on his face “Wait and see in two weeks if I am right. I am telling you this is what is going to occur”, without revealing the source for his surprising prediction.

  1. If Bayit Yehudi doesn’t object to policies that amount to persecution of Hareidim, then the likely result is a government that will enforce conscription of all 18-21 years, and probably cut off funding for non-cooperating yeshivos, and will limit social benefits to non-veterans.

The zionist Hareidim (who support the medinah, accept its money, and tend to be nationalistic) are in a situation of having to “go up the creek, without a paddle”.

  2. Bennett changing his tune it seems. Before the election he was “against” the force drafting of hareidim. Seems his lower than expected share of the seats has him desperate to ride in on Yair’s coat-tails.

#1 Akuperma I think your scare mongering is misplaced. Bibi has been quite firm he doesn’t want a return to the days when Ariel Sharon had a non-hareidi government (and what did it accomplish, Shinui and all?)

  3. Reply to #1: I’m really sorry you feel that way. The chareidim are not persecuted. They rely on the government to give them money for food, housing, and school. And not only this, but they expect the IDF to lay down their lives to protect them, without even a thank you (much less actually participating). You can understand why those less relgious might want them to “share the burden”, even if that just means giving a more diversified education so they can actually get a job when they grow up, as opposed to being barely literate and completely relient on the government. I may not agree with their lifestyle, or their methods, but I do understand where they’re coming from.

  4. Bennet is NOT changing his tune -he was very clear…. he said Chariedim who are not FULL time learning (they will check and audit) have to do national service OR army- he said he is realist that he cant force all haridim to do actual army but there is NO reason – rightfully so – that they cant contribute to society whether it be in hospitals, nursing homes, schools etc etc

  5. The zionist Hareidim (who support the medinah, accept its money, and tend to be nationalistic) are in a situation of having to “go up the creek, without a paddle”.

Not up the creek at all, finally a real opportunity to do National Service, without the entire kehilla, block, yeshiva and building giving you dirty looks… get trained at some vocation and continue to be a BEN TORAH with a professional. A feather in lots of hats.

You buy the cheaply catered propeganda of the Zionists.
    Some facts:

At least 65% of the IDF doesn’t risk their lives. Contribut – yes, resk – no.

The Jewish nation historically always concidered the study of Torah as a contribution in war times.

We thank ALL THE TIME for their contribution, while we recieve non for ours.

The money we “rely on” is peanuts in the national budget, where the big bucks go to greek sports and Roman drama 7 symphonies.

The “dirty looks” are a result of years of criminal propeganda saying מאי אהנו לי רבנן
see Sanhedrin 99:2 to learn what kind of place thses people go to…
