Sergeant Liran Banai, who was severely injured from an explosion last week in Gaza, R”L died this morning from his wounds in the Soroka hospital in Beersheba. His Levaya will be held this evening in the military cemetery in Ashkelon. Banai has been promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant posthumously.

Sergeant Liran Banai was injured last Thursday during a routine patrol along the security fence in the central Gaza Strip near the Israeli town of Kissufim. Another IDF soldier was killed during the explosion, and Sergeant Banai was evacuated to the Soroka hospital to receive treatment. Both of his legs were amputated as a result of the explosion. Sergeant Banai was the key source of income for his parents who were both deaf and mute.
