The Haifa District Court on Thursday, 24 Sivan, heard the case of abuse of the elderly in a nursing home. Two employees, Hussan Abu Ahmed and Andrei Keiss, working in the Naot Kipat HaZahav Nursing Home were arrested after they were found to be abusing persons in their charge. They were since convicted and the court on Thursday sentenced them to 18 months imprisonment. A third employee, Peter Gustav, was sentenced to six months in prison for his actions against the elderly.
A son of one of the elderly victims spoke out following the sentencing, complaining the court was too lenient. MK (Machane Tzioni) Yitzchak Shmuli, known to be fighting the battle on behalf of the elderly, explained what while he has the utmost respect for the court, he feels the sentence was far too light. Shmuli feels the judicial system must get tougher with persons who abuse their authority and harm the elderly, who are at times defenseless.
