Eight Arrested In Connection With Merkaz Massacre

IMG_17821.jpgPolice have arrested eight people in connection to Thursday’s massacre at Merkaz Harav Yeshiva, police said in a statement. Police said the attack had been planned even prior to the IDF’s operation in Gaza, adding that the shooter had apparently scoped out the Yeshiva for some time before the attack.

The police chief added that the terrorist, Alaa Abu Dheim YMS, was not known to police. “He was a normal person who ran a taxi service and was recently engaged to be married,” he said. Investigators were trying to establish whether he had acted alone or was connected to any militant group.

  1. the israeli goverment should not allow for any arabs to have israli citezinship and to live in israel

  2. to number 5.
i once read the following. a person once asked a rosh yeshiva why a yeshiva was much smaller than the hospital across the street, that spanned the whole block. to which the rabbi explained, if the yeshiva were a whole block than the hospital would be quite smaller. the koach ha’torah protects us.
whats an armed guard over lilmud torah?!

  3. We obviously have to Daven to Hashem to save us. As far as Hishtadlus goes, how can we continue to use Arab workers in hotels, Yeshivos, taxi drivers etc. after this story???

  4. עומדות היו רגלינו בשעריך ירושלים. מי גרם לרגלינו שיעמדו במלחמה? שעריי ירושלים, שהיו עוסקים בתורה. (מכות דף י ע”א)
    והמבין יבין

  5. Sir “the right way;”
With all due respect to your utopiazone, yeah, maybe “whats an armed guard over lilmud torah” works at a time where the Koach ha torah and dor is holding where it’s supposed to be. Apparently, in light of recent events- Yeshivas are not safe. “Habah lehargecha” is very much a toradik concept. I say everyone in Israel should be packing heat, but of course that’s just my opinion.

  6. its a total pshia not to have guards by a yeshiva. if there was a guard by merkaz would tis have happened.maybe maybe not, but chances are its less likely so u gog to do wat you got to do

  7. The whole incident needs a hesber, an explanation! If Torah is our protector, how could such an atrocity occur while the boys were engaged in the sole protection our world possesses? One can even argue that the IDF even permits the Torah learners be exempt from service since their Torah learning is also service to the country’s protection! Rav Aharon Kotler Ztz”l lost a talmid in 1953 to a sniper attack while he was sitting over his Gemmora. Rav Aharon, in his hesped, said then that the only conclusion one can draw is that the KITROG in Shamayim was so great that even the Torah could not be “maygin” – protect.
This past Friday is one day that according to all minhogim the two words “ULKAPORAAS PESHA” were added to the mussaf shemona esray. (In a Jewish leap year, some say it all year, some until after Adar Sheini and some only on Adar Sheini.) One must certainly conclude that these eight k’doshim were a Kaporah for us all, just as Nadav and Avihu were back then! Yehi Zichrom Boruch!

  8. Thank you for putting it into prospective! Such a story should be a wakeup call as to how vulnerable we really are. In the heart of yerushalayim, in a yeshiva, we always need “rachmay shumayim”. May we be zoche to the Geula Sheleima in these days of miracles and our pain and sorrow should be reversed to joy and celebration!
