A petition to the Central Election Committee has resulted in the disqualification of an Aryeh Deri phone call in which Deri is heard saying “if you vote Shas you will merit the bracha of Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita.”
Committee Chairman Justice Elyakim Rubinstein disqualified the ‘phone call’ based on the prohibition of using brachos from rabbonim in the election infomercials and campaign ads.

An amazing testimony to the importance of R. Yosef. Admission by the government that a bracha from him has substance. A haskama from some of the most important people in Israel asserting he is powerful. And since Elyakim Rubinstein is frum, he knows exactly what he is saying. No gadol in history has been so recognized.
