White House Calls NRA Ad ‘Repugnant & Cowardly’

The White House condemned as “repugnant and cowardly” an ad by the National Rifle Association that mentions President Barack Obama’s children as receiving armed Secret Service protection.

The ad comes as Obama unveils sweeping efforts to reduce gun violence that are for the most part opposed by the NRA, the nation’s leading gun rights group. The ad accused Obama of hypocrisy for having the Secret Service protect his children while opposing the NRA’s call for more armed guards in schools.

“Most Americans agree that a president’s children should not be used as pawns in a political fight. But to go so far as to make the safety of the president’s children the subject of an attack ad is repugnant and cowardly,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said.

  1. How is it hypocritical? Not all police in the world carry firearms. If Obama’s bodyguard feels that guns are needed to protect the president, should other people be at risk. Note that in none of the assasinations or attempts on presidents were shots fired by bodyguards in the president’s presence – so one should ask do they really need guns (guns were used when a group of Puerto Rican nationalists attacked the house where the president was staying, but he was in a different part of the house).

  2. Frankly, Obama is the one who is “repugnant and cowardly”. He’s the most two faced person on the planet. He firmly believes in “do as I say, not as I do”!
