Israel’s Police Commissioner, Roni Alsheich spoke on Wednesday evening at the University of Tel Aviv conference and told the gathered crowd that three years is too short a term to be Commissioner and that he was considering the possibility of extending his term.
“I did not ask to become the Commissioner, but I am enjoying every minute of it. As long as I am asked to continue my term for another year, I will consider it. I expect that my answer will be yes because I have such a strong love for the police force that goes down to the very depths of my soul. The job of a commissioner and of the force in general is to adequately train and develop its officers, commanders, captains and commissioners well. Up until now, I have never had to settle when it came to appointing talented commissioners or high-ranking officers.”
Alsheich’s comments come just one day after Attorney General Avichai Mandeblit asked Internal Security Minister for Alsheich’s file. Mandelblit is supposed to determine whether or not to request that Alsheich vacate the position or have his tenure extended. Mandelblit hinted at the fact that due to a conflict of interests, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu may not be allowed to be involved with appointing a successor to Mandelblit because of the open cases against him.

Mandeblit and Alsheich are both pretty straight shooters, though some hard rightists may quibble a bit about it .Give them an extension
