Justice Minister (Bayit Yehudi) Ayelet Shaked on Tuesday morning, Rosh Chodesh Sivan, addressed the events of Monday, the violence along the Gaza border and reports a price must be paid for the opening of the new US Embassy in Jerusalem.
Speaking with Galei Tzahal (Army Radio), she said, “The Americans did not ask us for anything in exchange for moving the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. They did this first of all for themselves, as [US President Donald] Trump promised his voters. See the emotion on their faces”.
Regarding the heating up of the Gaza border, Shaked said that “if we want the border with Gaza to be completely quiet, there is no choice but to conquer the Gaza Strip, but I do not think that is what needs to be done at this time.”
The justice minister also referred to the possibility that the escalation would force Israel to reestablish the Gush Katif settlements and said that it does not dream about it. “I do not think today we have to rebuild the settlements there,” she said.
The minister also commented on the recall of their ambassadors from Turkey and S. Africa following the violence and deaths along the Gaza border on Monday. She said that she is not moved by the fact that in the first place, these countries are hostile to Israel and not to countries that became as they are as a result of yesterday’s events.
