UPDATE 3:30PM EST: A large crane collapsed on Wednesday at a construction site in the New York City borough of Queens, injuring at least seven people, three seriously, authorities said.
The crane was being used at a construction site when it fell over about 2:30 p.m., the New York City Police Department said.
Among the seven people injured, three were in serious condition and another four suffered minor injuries, the New York Fire Department said. Both police and fire crews were on the scene.
In October, a crane in Midtown Manhattan partially collapsed during the high winds from approaching Superstorm Sandy.
UPDATE 2:40PM EST: FDNY reports an overturned mobile crane at a construction site with people trapped. FDNY has confirmed the crane has overturned onto Center Boulevard at 46 Avenue. FDNY has confirmed three injuries at this time. The extent of the injuries are currently unknown.
FDNY’s Command Post has been set up at Center Boulevard and 46 Avenue.
DOB has been notified and is en route.
FIRST REPORT 2:33PM EST: A crane has overturned at 46 Avenue and Center Blvd.
NYPD is reporting numerous people trapped and injured. They are requesting a Level 1 Mobilization response.
