Jerusalem municipal inspectors continue enforcing zoning laws in areas of the predominantly Arab eastern capital. As such, an illegal gas station was shut down by officials, and the equipment was confiscated. A grocery store that opened in an open area was also removed as was large garbage dumps as the city places an emphasis on enforcing zoning and building laws as is done in Jewish areas of the capital.
Abandoned vehicles were also removed from streets in those areas and graffiti washed off walls, all part of the area cleanup plan.
In addition, a number of illegal temporary structures erected in public areas were also removed, as they posed a significant health hazard, lacking even the most primitive of sanitary conditions.
