A man was shot dead and a woman was hurt by gunfire Monday evening in Brooklyn, police said.

The shooting occurred at 5:50 p.m. on East 42nd Street near Clarkson Aveue, police said.

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was taken to Kings County Hospital. Her condition was not immediately known.

There were no arrests made as of this posting.
